On the good side of this film, the best thing about it is it absolute entertainment fest. From start to finish, it succeeds its aim to entertain the audience and it doesn't outstay it's welcome. It's a fun, fast paced film that's has some very funny humour at times. Some of the humour really surprised me and one specific line at the end actually made me laugh out loud.
On a mixed aspect of the film is actually Robert Downey Jrs performance. He's a brilliant actors and is enjoyable throughout this film but he makes the odd choice on putting a Welsh accent. It's convincing at times but at other times, he accidentally breaks out of the accent so I think it would be better if he used his own accent or a simple English accent.
Now onto the negatives and unfortunately, I wish Robert Downey Jr had a better post Endgame film. This film is a total mess. First I just did not like the story to this film. Besides the fact it was so predictable, it felt more like a pirates of the Caribbean voyage spinoff than a doctor dolittle film and I don't think the film fully explained why it had to be Dolittle to find a cure to save the queen. It just had to be him because he's the main protagonist to the story which for me is just lazy writing.
Also while some of the humour does work, at other times it really doesn't and it also uses some really lazy kick to the balls humour which I really don't like and towards the end, some really unfunny fart jokes which, once again, is just lazy jokes for me and speaking of the final act, where they go with it is just bizarre especially adding a dragon into the mix which I just thought was too out of place for the film. Doctor Dolittle can speak to animals and since dragons are mythological, I really don't think it made sense to add that into the mix.
Finally, some of the CGI for the animals is really dodgy at times. Some really look like they were brought out of a cartoon and with the animals that did look real, as cute as they are, you can just tell they're CGI animals so it's quite distracting.
Overall as fun and entertaining this film is, it's a messy and disappointing follow up to Robert Downey Jrs career.
