Now before I go on, I just want to clarify something. This is a 3rd film sequel to Jumanji and Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle. There is no reboot. They are all in the same universe just a different cast with a big time gap.
Now let's start with the good and by far the best thing about this film is Kevin Hart. He is comedic gold. His scripting and acting is phenomenal in this film. He portrays Danny Glovers Milo so perfectly and realistic. You instantly believe he's Danny Glover trapped in Kevin Harts body. The rest of the cast are great but if I had to choose a runner up, it's got to be Awkwafina. She is so believable as Spencer and another character her avatar incaptures later on in the movie.
Another great thing to movie does is it keeps the lighter and adventurous tone and provides such great comedy. This is definitely one of the funniest films this year. I also like we explore different locations of the world of Jumanji.
Now I have one mixed aspect for this movie and it's we don't see much of Danny Glover at all. He's in the movie for about 5 minutes and that's it. I felt he deserved to be in it for at least a little longer but at the same time, I don't remember him being marketed in the film much so perhaps that's probably why.
And finally it's time for the negative and the big thing here is I felt this movie wasn't as new and refreshing as the last film was. In fact, it basically repeats the same storyline as the last movie did but makes slight changes. Also some of the deaths are written really oddly like they're only written for the avatar to lose their lives which is good to provide comedy but it doesn't provide much for the plot.
There's also a subplot involving water that can be used as a body swapper which is an interesting story and can help the team plotwise but I didn't feel it was used right in the movie.
Ultimately this is still a funny and entertaining imstallments to the Jumanji franchise with some disappointing moments but not enough to be considered bad.
